Our Fulham team took up the challenge of designing this multi-use space with flexibility to adapt a family/kids room, entertaining space and also an occasional home office. This is the first room of many we will be remodelling so an element of future continuity was an important consideration within the design.
Below are the notes from our design team
The Air bookshelf, with integrated space for TV, consists of floating shelves supported by glass panel. This will provide plenty of storage for the room with extra hidden capacity in the bottom drawers and display shelves above. The glass supports will complement very well the large windows on the opposite side of the room and will maintain the sense of light within the room.
The floating desk (wall hung) on the back wall, continues the design in line with the wooden shelves of the bookcase. The natural wood finish and texture will provide a feeling of warmth and again will match very well with the exterior. The wood finish is extremely durable, waterproof, scratch proof and heatproof.
To contrast the floating look of the bookshelf and desk, I have suggested a sofa grounded to the floor. The sofa is composed of 3 individual elements, 2 good sized armchairs + one pouf, which can easily be moved around to create different layouts depending on the use of the room. A low back has been specified to maximise the view of the garden and is perfect for kids to move around it.
This concept and aesthetic is adaptable to other areas of the house to link visually one space with another, for instance, the Air table will be equally at home as dining table in the kitchen, which will elevate the look of the room
